Bishop Museum

Programs for your students

Bishop Museum offers a wide range of programs in culture and science. We have a full new set of programs related to Hawaiian Hall, which reopened in summer 2009 after a complete renovation. Science programs are offered both in the Science Adventure Center (opened 2005) and at Science on a Sphere, the vivid six-foot globe that was installed with NOAA funding in 2006.

In addition, we offer programs on a wide range of astronomy topics in the Watumull Planetarium. All programs in all areas are aligned with HCPS III. Please see the individual program descriptions for an overview of which benchmarks are aligned to which programs.

Education programs range in length from 25 minutes to 1 hour. There are no additional fees for programs but we generally have a limit of no more than two programs per group.

The Kaneohe Business Group (KBG) had its beginning in 1969 when several businessmen and women voted to form the Serving with Yim and vice presidents George Clark, Damien Fariar and Jack Kaneshiro. Sandra Akina was secretary and Clifton Ushiroda was treasurer. Directors were Dr. Robert D.Y. Chang, Dr. Kenneth I. Ishimoto, Edgar Jones, Priscilla Lau, Thomas F. McCormack, Darryl L. Rose, Richard F. Strawn, P.Y. Chang, Morris Yoshii, Frederick K. Sanjume, and George E. Llewllyn.
In 1970, the association changed its name to the Kaneohe Business Group. At that time, there were 36 progressive businessmen and women who had the foresight for the future development of Kaneohe. Five years later, the group’s membership directory listed more than 100 business firms and individuals.
Businessmen and community workers are attracted to the Kaneohe Business Group far a variety of reasons. The group’s monthly meetings are highlighted by informative, interesting and sometimes controversial guest speakers. The KBG members are active in community and political issues that may affect the small businesses in Hawaii.
Each year Kaneohe Business Group raises thousands in scholarship monies for Windward Community College and helps organize the annual Windward Ho’olaule’a every fall.
